Marcel Desailly signed for Chelsea for £4.6 million from AC Milan before the 1998 World Cup. After receiving man of the tournament  that price looked like a bargain.

Marcel can play as a central defender or midfielder. 

Desailly won the European Cup in consecutive years with Marseille in 1993 and AC Milan in 1994. He has also played in France for Nantes.

Marcel gained an FA Cup winner's medal with the Blues in 2000, along with a runners-up medal two years later.

He admitted in the summer of 2002 that he had not always been at his best during his time at Stamford Bridge. By this time he had notched up 164 games for Chelsea, scoring five goals.

He is a World and European champion with France and Captain of club and country.

Desailly played all three games for France which had a disastrous 2002 World Cup, going out in the group stage with one point and no goals.
